Heritage in Mind
Heritage in Mind was a pilot project that showcased the importance of archaeology and heritage to health and wellbeing.
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, York Archaeology’s Nottingham office ran a series of hands-on archaeology sessions across Nottingham City and County.
Discover Local Heritage
The sessions invited community groups and local residents to explore Nottinghamshire’s history through fun, hands-on activities, including:
- Handling and learning about finds and artefacts
- Historic drawing and photography
- Investigating old maps, images, and archives
- Exploring and recording historic buildings.
The project assessed the benefits of a larger wellbeing and social prescribing programme tailored to Nottinghamshire’s heritage.
Partnering with the Community
York Archaeology worked with local health and wellbeing groups to host these activities. The sessions helped people connect with each other, build confidence, and learn new skills—all while discovering local history.
