Winter 2023-4

As the weather gets colder (and wetter), we move our winter 2023 programme inside and work on some other aspects of archaeology.

But that doesn’t mean the fun is over – there’s a lot more to archaeology than just digging! Our Winter Programme is made up of two types of sessions: Post-Excavation sessions and AoPeople’s Museum sessions.

Our Post-Excavation sessions are hosted at the Friargate Quaker Meeting House, and participants are taught various aspects of the post-excavation process, including digitising the excavation records and researching the historical stories of the people who lived in the area, and learning and discovering more about the story of the Willow House area and Walmgate.

AoPeople’s Museums sessions are hosted at York St John University, and participants learn different historical crafts and create their own “Museum Story Box,” telling the stories of Willow House. These boxes will go on display during the JORVIK Viking Festival in 2024 – check back soon for more information!

Participants are able to take part in both types of sessions.

This block is broken up into two halves. The first half runs from 6th November to 14th December, and the second half runs from 8th January to 15th February.

During our Winter ‘23 block, we’re welcoming back participants referred to us from partner organisations Converge, the NHS, Blueberry Academy, and Accessible Arts.
