Previous Phases

Archaeology on Prescription has been running since September 2021 – you can check out photos, blog posts, and even some videos from our previous phases here.

Autumn 2021 (Pilot 1)

Archaeology on Prescription will see participants work with archaeologists to improve their health and well-being, as well as learn new skills in archaeology.

Winter 2022

We focused on the post-excavation process whilst the weather was too chilly for fieldwork and included a range of archaeological and creative activities aiming to explore the history of the Walmgate area.

Spring 2022 (Pilot 2)

Our Spring Programme was also our second pilot. Building on what we learned from our first pilot in Autumn 2021, we ran a second pilot 4th April to 3rd June.

Summer 2022

Our Summer ‘22 programme marked the first non-pilot block for Archaeology on Prescription. It ran for nine weeks, from 13 June to 11 August.

Autumn 2022

Our Autumn block was shorter than our spring and summer blocks (only six weeks, from 22 August to 29 September), but it was just as exciting!

Winter 2022-23

Our Winter Programme returned to its focus on the post-excavation process and added in some amazing Viking-era crafting.

Spring 2023

Our Spring ‘23 programme was one of transition – participants from our first two pilots had graduated, meaning we had a lot of new faces to welcome in!

Summer 2023

If our Spring 2023 programme was one of transition, Summer 2023 was finding our groove again. We had a mix of new and old faces, and the triumphant return of our creative activities.

Autumn 2023

We had definitely found our groove during our Autumn 2023 block, with plenty of returning participants.
